The other day I saw a video clip with Neil Cavuto titled, “Ron Paul is Obama’s Greatest Threat.” It got me thinking about Ron Paul and how big of a threat he really could be to Obama. It dawned on me that many Ron Paul supporters and Obama supporters have a lot in common.

This lead me to the premise that if Ron Paul ran as a Democrat, not only could he beat Obama, but whether he won the general election as a Democrat or one of the other three Republican candidates won, America would still win. Any of the four current GOP candidates is light-years better than Obama.

Please allow me to explain.

When Obama was running for office in 2008, many people stated publicly they were going to or did vote for him because they wanted to be part of history. They were excited about the prospect of America’s first black president.

Part of the enthusiasm for Ron Paul, from his supporters, comes from his stances on legalized marijuana and legalized prostitution. They also value his ‘non-interventionist’ stance on war.

If Ron Paul were to run as a Democrat, Democrat and Independent voters who might otherwise vote for Obama would be put in a dilemma. As the luster of the historical moment of voting for a black president has worn off, they are seeking something new to get excited about. This is where Paul could shine.

His stances on marijuana and prostitution fit in well with the general belief systems of many liberals and progressives, making him the ‘new cool’ in candidates. They also tend to be very against war of any kind and would be excited about a candidate who would keep this country out of wars, no matter what.

Paul could easily siphon off voters from Obama. These voters would not only be excited about his viewpoints, but would feel comfortable and welcome surrounded by many of his current supporters, as they already share some of the same beliefs. Ron Paul could also more easily sway those who like his views but will never vote for a Republican to cast their vote for him, if he changed the “R” to a “D”. All of this could put him in as the Democrat candidate.

If Paul were to win the primary against Obama, he would then be up against whoever of the three Republican candidates would have won the Republican primary. In this case, since he and the remaining three of the GOP options have at least some conservatism in them and should undo some of the worst of Obama’s damaging run, America wins regardless of which of the two gets the victory. Again, Paul, Santorum, Gingrich and Romney are all better than Obama.

Paul has not, thus far, had the primary numbers to back the theory of his supporters that he will win the primaries to become the GOP candidate. However, as a Democrat candidate, he stands a strong chance of not only getting the opportunity to soundly ‘spank’ Obama, but to be in the running in the general election for the office of President of United States of America.

As a bonus, there are many who are concerned that Paul could ‘split’ the Republican Party and give Obama a win. This is a testament to the power of his supporters. This however, also works against them. If the ‘party split’ power were to be put to work in the Democrat party, though, everyone wins. Well, except Obama and his most die-hard fans. And that is what Paul supporters and (the other) Republicans alike all want.

This is why, if Ron Paul and his supporters truly want him to get a shot at beating Obama mano-a-mano and getting into the White House, he needs to switch it up to running as a Democrat, and those who support him need to encourage him to do so. It is truly his best shot at getting the win and the best thing he can do for those who so fervently support him and his beliefs. It would be a tremendous win for America.

Not much new came up in last night’s debate, but with the mood in the room being similar to that of a funeral service, it is hardly any wonder. Perhaps the candidates are wearing down from their hectic schedules or perhaps the moderators just stunk. Either way, very little by way of excitement or revelation came out of the debate.

It should be noted that part of the problem was that the audience had been instructed not to react. They were not allowed to cheer, clap or boo. Though there wasn’t much to get excited about coming from the candidates or moderators, the audience silence provided a deafening addition of boredom to the event.

A few things bear repeating, though, for those folks who missed it or have been feeling deluged by both information and misinformation during this process.

Ron Paul previously stated that we should not have fought Hitler.  During the debate he said we should be in talks and trading with Cuba. Isn’t that akin to saying don’t protect the innocent but do make a deal with the devil?

Both Gingrich and Romney stated clearly that they support portions of the Dream Act, with Romney also almost immediately flip-flopping all over the place on it, perhaps after he realized that he said he supported it out loud.

Santorum, by contrast, very clearly stated what I have been saying and what the other three on the stage fail to understand. He said that in order to be here, illegals not only commit the first act of breaking the law by illegal entry, but violate that same law every day they are here, plus break other laws in order to be here, daily, such as stealing identities, lying on paperwork, etc. Rewarding them for breaking laws on a daily basis is wrong.

There were a number of instances in which the moderators completely took things out of context in phrasing their questions to the candidates, obviously looking for some ‘gotcha’ moments. They failed miserably and were quickly called on it by each of the candidates. I thought the moderators were experienced journalists? Oh wait, they are lamesteam media-that explains their lack of concern for facts.

It will be interesting to see how Floridians vote after this snoozer of a debate. Were they counting the number of references candidates made to Florida during the debate? I wasn’t counting, but it seemed to be a higher number than occurred in other debate states. What is it that will sway Floridians or will be considered a ‘win’ for any of the four that were on the stage?

The Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA), also known as House Bill 3261 or H.R. 3261, is a bill that was introduced in the United States House of Representatives on October 26, 2011, by House Judiciary Committee Chair Representative Lamar S. Smith (R-TX) and a bipartisan group of 12 initial co-sponsors. The bill, if made law, would expand the ability of U.S. law enforcement and copyright holders to fight online trafficking in copyrighted intellectual property and counterfeit goods.^[2] Presented to the House Judiciary Committee, it builds on the similar PRO-IP Act of 2008 and the corresponding Senate bill, the PROTECT IP Act.^[3]

The originally proposed bill would allow the U.S. Department of Justice, as well as copyright holders, to seek court orders against websites accused of enabling or facilitating copyright infringement. On Martin Luther King (Jr) Day, I thought it important that we take a moment to reflect upon the man. Not the distorted politically-correct, left-leaning concoction the Left has invented, but the real man and his real cause.

At the risk of dating myself, I was born into the tail-end of his life. Only months old when he was assassinated, the world I came into was a very different place from the one we live in now. The things Martin Luther King, Jr and others like him did blessed me with a world that was changing for the better.

Fast forward to 2008. Having lived in a world that had changed so much from the one I was born into, several years ago I was shocked and dismayed to see an uprising of the darkness of racist hate that had so largely been defeated prior to that. Prior to that, the racial fight had been taken to South Africa to fight apartheid. There were no big civil rights movements in the United States as the racism of decades past had been largely eradicated.

During the 2008 campaign season, false claims were made that the world was still the one I was born into, and those claims were made in order to push political agendas that would actually revert the world back to that place.

Yes, racism still exists, but my experience over the years has been that it is strongest amongst those with a liberal or progressive agenda to push. I rarely see anyone on the Right being racist, but I see it on the Left on a regular basis. It seems to be part of the requirements of being on the Left to either push a racist agenda or to naively believe that it will somehow make things better.

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. gave his infamous “I have a dream” speech in Washington, D.C on August 28, 1963. In this speech, he stated,

I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal.”

I have a dream that one day on the red hills of Georgia, the sons of former slaves and the sons of former slave owners will be able to sit down together at the table of brotherhood.

I have a dream that one day even the state of Mississippi, a state sweltering with the heat of injustice, sweltering with the heat of oppression, will be transformed into an oasis of freedom and justice.

I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.

I have a dream today!

He had a dream that one day whites and blacks would be seen for who they were as people, and not be judged simply because of their skin color. His dream was not that of black superiority or of white castigation, but of brotherhood and equality among all people, regardless of skin color. His dream was of “slaves and slave owners” sitting together in peace. This is not the ‘dream’ of the Left, nor is it the manner in which they use his name, his speech and his legacy.

But, today’s discussion is not only one white woman’s viewpoint on the racist hate spewed by the Left and how Dr. Martin Luther King’s legacy is being distorted. Some conservatives who happen to be black have shared their thoughts on the matter, too.

For MLK Day observed: Who made it legal for women like Rosa Parks to have to give up her seat for white people? Democrats. Who was bombing black churches? Democrats? Who imposed segregation? Democrats. Who was hosing blacks, and releasing dogs on them? Democrats. Who arrested MLK? Democrats. MLK Was fighting the institutionalized bigotry of DEMOCRATS. But nah, the idea of him being a republican is just ridiculous. Happy birthday Dr. King.

From the Left we do not have supportive statements that add to the good reverend’s cause of erasing racial boundaries, but statements that promote and strengthen racial division, and push self-serving agendas:

Reverend Jesse Jackson stated that

We must revive Dr. King’s war on poverty.

What war on poverty? Dr. King did not push for “economic justice” or “redistribution of wealth.” His uses of economic terminology was in reference to freedom and justice, as in “great vaults of opportunity” and “riches of freedom” in his “I have a dream” speech. He never pushed for handouts, much less handouts based on color, social status or political affiliation.

North Carolina NAACP President William Barber used the day to speak about voter identification, claiming that Dr. King fought for all blacks to be able to vote, and voter identification prevents that.

Apparently in his mind, blacks do not have the same capacity as whites do to walk into a driver’s license division to obtain a driver’s license or state I.D. card, and have no need ever in life to have one.

Raise your hand if you have never needed a photo I.D. for any reason, ever. I have needed one as part of being hired for jobs, to get security clearance for jobs, to cash pay checks, to buy nutritional supplements (apparently some ingredients trigger this), to buy DVDs (ratings issue), to play nickel slots in a casino for five minutes (I was 28 at the time and thought it was really funny), to get a library card, to apply to be a volunteer at the city animal shelter, to buy my home (with mortgage), to open bank accounts, to get married, when pulled over by police officers (I had a little lead-foot issue when I was 21), to use debit or credit cards when making purchases at the store and more.

But the misuse of the man’s name and legacy is not reserved for Martin Luther King Day. The Left continually spews revisionist history and falsely insists that it is the Democrat Party who is supportive of blacks, while it is those nasty Republicans and Tea Partiers who hate them.

Let’s review some true history:

First, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was a registered Republican. His daughter Dr. Alveda C. King has stated

My grandfather, Dr. Martin Luther King, Sr., or ‘Daddy King‘, was a Republican and father of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. who was a Republican.

When the 1960 Civil Rights Act was signed by President Eisenhower, it was only after it had been through a five day, five hour filibuster by Democrats in Senate to stop it. These senators included Lyndon Johnson.

When the 1964 Civil Rights Act was signed by President Lyndon Johnson [yes, the same Lyndon Johnson who as a senator filibustered against the 1960 Civil Rights Act], it had gone through a 14-hour filibuster by former Ku Klux Klansman Robert Byrd. Nay votes from 22 other Democrat senators also failed to stop it. One of those senators was Al Gore, Sr., father of the “internet inventor” and Nobel Prize winner, Al Gore, Jr.

When the act made it to President Johnson’s desk, it was a mater of political expediency for him and the Democrats for him to sign it. More on this can be found in David Barton’s book, American History in Black and White. 

In October 2011, President Obama dragged the good reverend’s name into his own political game-playing. As reported on The Blaze

President Barack Obama said Sunday that Martin Luther King Jr. would have approved of the ongoing Occupy Wall Street movement.

Speaking at the dedication for the late civil rights leader’s memorial on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., Obama drew parallels between King’s sense of justice and the demonstrations in New York City against corporate greed.

 

So, tell me again, who understands and honors the MLK legacy and who undermines it and/or distorts it to push their own twisted agenda?
