In North Carolina there is a campaign for “respect for immigrants.” The only people who lack respect for immigrants are those on the left who insist on letting illegals jump to the head of the line and who continually insult immigrants by calling criminal illegals “immigrants” as if there is no difference.
As a “melting pot” country, the United States is a land of opportunity that welcomes ‘the tired, the poor, and the huddled masses yearning to breathe free.’ Immigrants to this country have a long history of assimilating to this country: changing their names (not necessary, but they did it for a variety of reasons), learning the language and history on their own, obeying the laws of this country, going through the difficult and lengthy process of gaining citizenship, and assimilating to the culture and customs. They sacrifice much and give much. They are generally highly honorable, hard working people who add to the economy and greatness of this country. Many of us are descendants of immigrants, some of us being only first, second or third generation Americans.
By contrast, illegals are actively violating the laws of this country every day they are here illegally, don’t bother learning the language, cost tax payers millions annually to teach the language to their children, and demand “rights” all the while attempting to strip Americans of theirs. Illegals are self-serving takers who steal what they can and send it home. They do not add to the economy and they do not add to the greatness of this country. They are a heavy burden on this country and seek only their own comfort, pleasure and gain.
The legal system of immigration protects America, her citizens and those legally here from the riff raff. The legal system of immigration screens out those with certain health, criminal or security issues in order to protect the public welfare.
Illegal immigration is a system of the riff raff bypassing that important screening and enjoying all the perks the liberal left can’t seem to dole out fast enough to them. Those who believe they have the right to be here illegally are by their very definition, riff raff.
On a personal note, I am third generation American on one side of my family and on the other it is the 1700′s before I get to the immigrants. Either way, I am descended of immigrants to this country who have sacrificed and risked their lives in every war, started businesses, etc. They sought out life here and proudly assimilated in every way.
I resent being called anti-immigrant and I find it to be outrageously offensive that those who came before me are being lumped into the same category as the self-serving, criminal foreign invaders. The two are not the same by any stretch of the imagination.
It is time to put this liberal politically correct hogwash were it belongs and start calling things by their right names. Only then will our beloved immigrants be shown the true respect and dignity they so richly deserve.
